My Experience at Achieve

AngieI became a member of Achieve on April 6, 2006.  Prior to joining, I had tried various methods for losing weight to no avail.  Somehow, by just walking through the door at Achieve, I knew that this time would be different.  This time, I would lose the weight for good.

I did carry some worry initially that I wouldn’t see results quickly enough to keep me motivated.  I wasn’t by any means looking for the “quick fix” or to be a fashion model overnight, but I have been discouraged before by not seeing any results at all after much hard work.

By following the “prescription” for weight loss given to me by Dr. Miller, April, Christy, Roya, and Lindsey, I was amazed at the results I attained within the first week.  I was breathing better, I felt more energetic, and I definitely had more drive to keep going.  I firmly believe what Dr. Miller said to me at our first meeting, “you get out of this program what you put into it.”  I give 100%, and the program always gives it back.  As of today, I have lost 30 pounds.  I have about 15-20 more pounds to go to reach my goal weight, and I have no doubt that I will get there.  I have a great team backing me all the way.

It is a wonderful program that I will recommend to anyone interested in losing weight and getting healthy for life.  I am so fortunate that I found Achieve and made the commitment to myself to give weight loss another try.  I applaud Dr. Miller for having the courage to create this program and allow all of us the opportunity to learn from the expertise of his staff.

Achieving My Goal

KaterinaI’ve always been a “comfort” food eater, eating when bored, unhappy, lonely, etc.  My weight topped out around 200 lb – putting me well into the obese category at 5’3”.  Diabetes and high blood pressure run in my family, and I knew that I was at a high risk for these diseases. 

I’d tried a few times to lose weight with various fad diets, but any loss was eventually gained back.  This time, I didn’t want a gimmick to force weight loss, I wanted (and needed) a plan that would change my lifestyle and one that I could follow the rest of my life.  That is why I chose the Achieve Comprehensive Weight Loss Clinic.  I refuse to call it a diet. Diets are impossible and easily broken - a lifestyle change is forever.  Instead, I like to tell folks that I began my new “Healthy Living Lifestyle” on July 20, 2004. 

The premise of my new lifestyle combines a strength training program with eating healthy balanced meals in appropriate portion sizes.  My average food intake is about 1500 calories per day.  I eat foods from every food group and use the American Diabetic Association’s food exchange lists to define portion sizes.  I do strength training work outs three days per week and cardiovascular exercises as much as I can.  The initial program was a six month commitment – but I have continued to come to Achieve for nearly two years now.  The long term accountability of this program has been a key factor in the success of my weight loss.

In the Fall of 2005, I achieved my goal of losing 50 lb and five pant sizes.  I am now the size I want to be, but must continue to work to maintain this size.  And it IS still work and will always be something I have to be aware of and work at.  They say it takes two years to completely change a habit, and I do still struggle from time to time. But, I continue to attend strength training / toning classes at Achieve three times per week, utilize their cardio equipment, and routinely check in with the nutritionist and trainers to stay on top of maintaining my weight loss.  I have found a system that works for me – one that holds me accountable, but also works in the “real” world.

The Definition of Achieve

LuciThe dictionary definition of achieve is to perform or carry out with success; accomplish. To attain with effort or despite difficulty. Achieve Comprehensive Weight Loss Clinic has certainly allowed me to do that. The program focuses on all aspects of weight loss: nutrition consultation with a registered dietitian, wellness therapy with a professional counselor, medical supervision by a physician, and exercise with the support of a personal fitness trainer. That combined with my strong desire and willpower to accomplish my weight loss goals has allowed me to lose 81 pounds in 18 months. With effort and despite difficulty, I have had the support system in place through Achieve to reach my goal. I know whenever I need a little help or support it is always there for the asking. The Achieve team supports my goals and shares in my accomplishments. I feel so much better physically and my health has improved with my weight loss. I am currently Achieves “biggest loser”.  I am looking forward to continued weight loss and all the benefits that come with that loss. One of the easiest concepts of the Achieve program is that you learn to eat healthy and exercise. Both are very simple to do and lifestyle changes that I can do for a lifetime to maintain my weight loss and be healthy.
